Located on the West Bay in Oyster Harbors, Massachusetts, this single-family summer retreat landscape responds to the modern, clean lines of the home’s interior architecture to reinforce the concept of summertime indoor-outdoor living. The upper terrace is designed to reinforce the programming of the home’s interior by creating a lounge area and dining space directly adjacent to the home’s interior living room and kitchen. The pool was positioned to the side the home’s two sets of large lift and slide doors to keep the primary view of West Bay unobstructed. A set of generously sized monolithic granite steps lead directly from the upper terrace to the pool terrace area supporting multiple pedestrian desire lines to allow for easy flow. The pool’s interior color was selected to reflect the light qualities of the West Bay waters becoming a modern cove to the greater bay area. The proposed plantings remain naturalistic and directly abut the clean architectural lines of the exterior architecture and provide a unique visual tension creating a dramatic landscape experience.
